Landscape Design in Columbus, Ohio
Good design comes first. We plan the layout, pick the materials, and build it ourselves. One team from start to finish.
Design That Actually Gets Built
A lot of landscape designers hand you a drawing and wish you luck finding someone to build it. We don't work that way. When we design a yard, it's because we're going to build it. That means every plan accounts for real-world stuff. drainage, soil conditions, utility lines, how the sun hits your patio at 6pm in July.
We sit down with you, walk your property, and figure out what makes sense for your lot, your budget, and how you use the space. Then we put it on paper and get to work.
How Our Design Process Works
Nothing complicated. Here's how it goes:
- We come to your property for a free walkthrough and conversation
- We take measurements, photos, and note drainage, grade, and sun exposure
- We put together a design plan with layout, material options, and pricing
- We review it with you and adjust until it's right
- We build it. same crew, same point of contact
Most design plans take 1-2 weeks to put together. Simple front yard refreshes are faster. Bigger projects with patios, walls, planting beds, and lighting take a bit more time to get the details right.
Full Property Planning
Whether it's a front yard that needs curb appeal or a full backyard transformation, we plan the whole thing. Most Columbus properties need a mix of hardscape and softscape. and the trick is making them work together instead of looking like two separate projects.
We design and build:
- Front yard landscaping and entrance design
- Backyard patio and outdoor living layouts
- Planting plans with trees, shrubs, and perennials for Ohio's climate
- Retaining walls and grade changes
- Drainage solutions integrated into the design
- Landscape lighting plans
- Walkways, stepping stones, and path layouts
Why Design Matters
Skipping the design phase is how people end up with a patio that floods, plants that die in two years, or a yard that looks like three different contractors worked on it. A good plan saves you money because you build it right the first time.
Columbus has specific challenges. heavy clay soil, freeze-thaw cycles that crack cheap work, and drainage issues on flat lots. We account for all of that in the design so you don't end up fixing problems later.
I've been designing and building outdoor spaces in Columbus for over 6 years. The design isn't just a drawing. it's the plan for how everything fits together. I take that part seriously because it's what separates a good result from a great one. Every project, I'm on site making sure the build matches the plan.

Landscape Design FAQs
How much does landscape design cost?
Our design consultations start with a free on-site visit. For full design plans with layout drawings and material specs, costs typically range from $500 to $2,000 depending on the scope. That fee gets applied toward the project cost if we do the installation. so you're not paying twice.
What's included in a design consultation?
We come to your property, walk the space with you, talk about what you want and what the site can support. We look at drainage patterns, sun exposure, soil conditions, existing trees and structures. Then we put together a plan with layout, materials, plants, and pricing. No pressure, no sales pitch. just a straight plan.
Do you handle both design and installation?
Yes. We're a design-build company. That means the same team that draws up the plan is the team that builds it. No handoff to a different crew, no surprises during construction. Edgar is on site for both the design walkthrough and the build.
How long does the design process take?
From initial consultation to a finished design plan, usually 1-2 weeks. Simple projects like a front yard refresh can be turned around in a few days. Larger projects with multiple zones. patio, landscaping, lighting, drainage. take a bit longer to get right.
Can you work with my existing landscaping?
Absolutely. Most of our projects involve working around what's already there. mature trees, existing patios, established beds. We figure out what stays, what goes, and what gets improved. No reason to tear everything out if the bones are good.
